Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has raised concerns over what he describes as increasing responsibilities being placed on Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
According to the outspoken politician-turned cleric, the spate of overload of national issues on the doorstep of the traditional ruler is overwhelming.
Recalled that recently, Asantehene was called upon and began mediation on the long-standing Bawku conflict aimed at finding lasting solutions.
To mention a few among others, the Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor recently visited the Asantehene.
BoG Governor appealed to the Asantehene to support efforts aimed at halting the use of foreign currencies in local transactions and reinforcing the Ghana Cedi as the sole legal tender.
In a post on the official X account on Thursday, July 24, 2025, Mr. Anyidoho questioned the recent move by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama.
He expressed rhetorical concern and could not comprehend the rationale behind overburdening the Asantehene with issues bordering on ethnicity and economy.
“Are we not overburdening Asantehene? He alone should manage all ethnic conflicts and also manage our currency?” he asked in the wake of Dr. Asiama’s visit to Manhyia Palace.

Some users of the app flooded Mr. Anyidoho’s post and expressed their disappointment over the development.
One user suggested that the recent overdependence on the Asantehene amounts to ruling the country indirectly.
“Indirectly, he’s the one ruling the country because how can he alone be doing this? My opinion, then in 2028, Ghanaians should just give the steers to him to man the affairs of Ghana. No need for election anymore,” Dyrecta Baba Fadul commented.
Another user by the name of Samuel Asamoah shared that such workload placed on the King was not only overburdening but also an attempt to denigrate his status under the pretext of partisan politics.
“But you could still down unconcerned for some riffraff to denigrate this man …… all in the name of politics,” he expressed.
