A prison officer, Constable Clement Tei Gyabah, was found dead in the River Pompo at Pomposo, an area within the Obuasi East Municipal in the Ashanti Region.
The officer who is popularly known as “Biggie” by local residents, and worked with the Ghana Prison Service at the Obuasi Command, is believed to be in his thirties.
Eyewitnesses said the deceased was spotted early Wednesday, July 30, 2025, riding a motorcycle from Asonkore to work while it was drizzling.
He reportedly veered off the road and crashed the motorcycle into a concrete barricade before falling over into the river.
Others, however, suspect foul play, suggesting that a vehicle might have knocked him over into the river due to the deep lacerations found on his forehead.
The Ghana Police Service, together with a rescue team and some individuals, assisted in retrieving the officer’s body and motorcycle from the river.
The body was then conveyed to the morgue pending autopsy.
