After dazzling Prime Minister Modi in Ghana’s Parliament, Oda MP visits Indian Envoy to strengthen diplomatic ties

The Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, continues to attract attention from the Indian community after he wore the country’s traditional clothing to Parliament, during the recent visit by Prime Minister Nerandra Modi.

Mr Acquah accepted an invitation from the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana and on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, he paid a courtesy call on H. E Manish Gupta at the High Commission’s premises in Accra.

Mr. Acquah in a post on his his social media handles noted that, the engagement was part of ongoing efforts to forge closer connections between the Indian community in Ghana and his constituency.

“In furtherance of my desire to forge a closer relationship between the Indian Community in Ghana and my constituency, Akyem Oda, I responded to an invitation from the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana,” he explained.

During the meeting, the MP presented framed photographs commemorating the recent visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ghana.

According to the former Deputy Health Minister, his choice to wear traditional Indian attire during the Prime Minister’s address to Parliament had drawn widespread attention, particularly from members of the Indian diaspora.

“This unique show of respect for the Indian culture has opened some opportunities for a cordial relationship to our mutual benefits,” Mr. Acquah noted.

The MPs gesture is seen as a step toward deepening diplomatic and cultural ties between Ghana and India, with Mr. Acquah positioning Akyem Oda as a welcoming partner in regional cooperation.
