The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) has announced a 20 percent upward adjustment in public transport fares, set to take effect on Friday, August 8, 2025.
The adjustment, disclosed in a release dated August 5, 2025, is attributed to multiple factors impacting operational costs.
These include the lack of corresponding reductions in the prices of spare parts, goods, and services following a previous 15 percent fare reduction in May 21, an 8 percent fuel cost increase following the introduction of a GH¢1.00 per liter levy, and rising maintenance costs due to deteriorating road conditions nationwide.
According to GRTCC, the new fares will apply to shared taxis, intra-city (tro-tro), inter-city (long distance), and haulage services and directed all commercial transport operators and companies to comply and display updated fare lists at their loading terminals.
“We kindly request all commercial transport operators/companies to comply with new fares and post same at their loading terminals,” the GRTCC statement jointly signed by Emmanuel Ohene-Yeboah, General Secretary, and Alhaji Tanko, AG National Chairman said.
The council further urged operators, commuters, and the general public to cooperate to ensure smooth implementation of the fare changes.
