Sports journalist with Accra-based Angel TV, Daniel Listowel Mensah, has called out the Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Okraku, over his decision to increase the presidential term limit from two to three.
The Ghana Football Association announced that they will be presenting an amendment proposal to increase the presidential term limit to align with CAF and FIFA.
This decision has received a lot of criticism from the public and speaking about the issue, Listowel said Mr. Okraku’s proposal stemmed from greediness, adding that he will convince football people with food to vote in favor of the decision.
“Kurt Okraku is a greedy guy, just taking advantage of a weak system to benefit himself— we decided to insert two-term. Limits in our statues because of another greedy leader, so why revert to the old ways? If not greediness?
Well, he will have his way, because football people will go to congress and will be interested in the Jollof rice and Turkey wings that will be shared, not stand against bogus decisions like this, it sad,” he said on Angel FM/TV
Kurt Okraku succeeded Kwesi Nyantakyi in 2019 following an election after the latter who served as the President of the GFA for 13 years and was removed after the Anas’ Expose.
Mr. Okraku beat competition from George Afriyie, Nana Yaw Amponsah and Fred Pappoe to win the election after a third round contest. He was thus re-elected in the 2023 GFA Elections after going unopposed.
