A youth activist, tourism advocate, and football fan from Ghana’s Upper East Region, Dennis Apusika, has completed a 785kilometer trek from Bolgatanga to Accra to campaign for tourism and call for the construction of a modern sports stadium in the Upper East Region.

Speaking on Angel Drive on Monday, August 25, 2025, Dennis explained that his walk, which began on July 22 and ended on August 17, 2025, lasted 27 days. His primary motivation, he said, was to raise awareness about the lack of sports infrastructure in the region and to promote sports development.

“What came up with this was because I made a comment on Facebook that if Chelsea beats Paris Saint Germain, I will walk from Bolga to Accra,” Dennis revealed. “Initially, I wanted to take it as a joke, but as someone in the tourism space, looking at the state of sports infrastructure in the northern regions, I decided to use the opportunity to advocate for a sports stadium.”

According to him, the situation in the Upper East has become critical . He notified that the Bolga stadium is now being used as a place of defecating and inconvenience, forcing players to move to the Northern Region for training and competitions. He said this has discouraged residents from supporting their own teams and contributed to a decline in sports growth and infrastructure in the region.

Dennis also noted that while he began his journey without any external support, people gradually came on board as they realized he was serious about his mission.

“I wasn’t getting any support from the beginning but as I continued, people realized i wasn’t joking so few people joined me,” he said.

He further revealed that he will walk back to Bolga after he shakes hands with President John Dramani Mahama.
