Former Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for People’s National Convention (PNC), Nana Oboadie Opambour Boateng Bonsu, has called on the Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juabeng South, Michael Okyere Baafi to fulfil his problem to resign from Parliament.
Nana Oboade, who contested the New Juaben South Parliamentary seat in 2008, 2012 and 2016 elections he reminded Okyere Baafi of his vow to resign as an MP if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) loses the Akwatia by-election, which has now come to pass.
“As the People’s National Convention (PNC) Presidential Candidate for New Juabeng South in the 2008, 2012, and 2016 elections, I am compelled to address a matter of public interest and accountability,” he indicated in the statement which he issued on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
He added: “During the recent electoral cycle, you made a public declaration that if the NPP lost the election, you would resign from your position.
“Given that the NPP has indeed lost the election, I now formally call upon you to honour your word,” the statement read.
He emphasized that Mr. Okyere Baafi’s resignation is necessary to maintain the integrity of his word and demonstrate accountability to his constituents, given his promise and the election outcome.
Nana Oboadie Opambour Boateng warned that should Mr. Okyere Baafi renege on his declaration, he would have no choice but to pursue a vote of no confidence to ensure that the values of integrity and accountability are upheld.
“If you fail to adhere to your own declaration, I will be compelled to initiate proceedings for a vote of no confidence; This step will be necessary to uphold the principles of integrity and accountability that you yourself espoused.
“I trust that you will consider the weight of your words and the expectations of the good people of New Juaben South, your actions will either reinforce the trust placed in you or further erode the confidence of your constituents,” he reiterated.
