Lawyer for the founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Enoch Afoakwah, has provided an update on the arrest and detention of Kofi Akpaloo by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
He stated that his client has not been officially charged by EOCO but has been cautioned on some offences.
In a clarification over the circumstances surrounding the detained presidential hopeful on Accra-based Adom FM, Thursday, September 4, 2025, Lawyer Afoakwah dismissed claims by some sections of the media regarding the matter.
“The matter under investigations relates to a commercial dispute currently before the Commercial Division of the Accra High Court. He has not been formally charged but has been cautioned on some offences under investigation,” he stated.
But the legal practitioner declined to disclose details, noting the matter is still under investigation.
He further indicated that reports suggesting Mr. Akpaloo was picked up together with his spouse are false, stressing that the matter involves him alone.
“It is only him, his wife is not in custody; it is not true,” he added, indicating the case is purely a commercial dispute being handled by EOCO and the court.
The presidential hopeful was arrested on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in Kumasi and has been in custody, though the Office has yet to issue a formal communiqué.
