Ghanaian midfielder, Ibrahim Sulemana, is expected to depart the Black Stars camp following a knee injury sustained prior to the team’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier draw with Chad.
According to an official communique from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Sulemana picked up the injury to his right knee during training in N’Djamena on Wednesday.
As a result, he was unable to feature in Ghana’s match against Chad on Thursday and will also miss the upcoming fixture against Mali on Monday, September 8, 2025.
The GFA confirmed that Sulemana will return to his club, Bologna, in Italy for further assessment of the injury.
“He is also not available for the match against Mali, hence his early release from camp to return to Italy for further assessment,” the GFA said.
The FA extended well wishes to Sulemana, saying, “The Ghana Football Association wishes Sulemana a speedy recovery.”
However, in his absence, Spain-based midfielder Kwasi Sibo has been called up to join the squad and already arrived in camp on Saturday morning.
Ghana will host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, a game they will hope to secure all three points following the disappointing 1:1 draw with Chad on Thursday.
