Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership position has received a significant boost with the endorsement of 15 Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Eastern Region.
This backing follows similar declarations from other prominent figures within the party, indicating growing momentum as the NPP’s presidential primary approaches on January 31, 2026.

Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, the MP for Achiase Constituency and spokesperson for Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, highlighted the former Vice President’s humility, respectfulness, and ability to foster unity within the party as key reasons for their endorsement.
“You’re talking about the 15 MPs who have declared their support for Dr. Bawumia, and our message is very simple.

“When you look at the five people who have declared their intentions to contest the flagbearership, you can see that Dr. Bawumia, when we talk about good governance, has the knowledge.
“When you talk about experience in governance to build the nation, he comes first. And when we talk about humbleness, understanding, and bringing people together, Dr. Bawumia comes first.

“We’ve taken him there before and he knows most of the people. Since he has all these qualities, we don’t see any reason why we should set him aside and bring in a different person to lead the party for the 2028 election,” he stated.
