MTN Ghana has reiterated its commitment to promoting online safety and protecting its digital ecosystem as the company marked Cybersecurity Awareness Month with a special forum for its staff in Takoradi.

The event, aimed at deepening awareness of cyber threats and enhancing security consciousness among employees, brought together staff from the Western and Central Regions.

It formed part of MTN’s broader efforts to build a culture of digital safety within the organization while ensuring that its customers, staff, and business operations remain protected from online threats.

Speaking at the forum, Prince Owusu Nyarko, Senior Manager for MTN in the Western and Central Regions, emphasized the importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital world.

He noted that the initiative was part of MTN’s mission to strengthen digital resilience across all aspects of its operations.

“This month is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The organization does this to ensure that our people are aware of the threats that exist when they are on the internet,” Mr. Nyarko said.

“We use this moment to educate our team to make sure that they protect themselves from any threat from the internet. We are educating, making people aware, and ensuring they stay safe online,” he added.

He explained that as an IT-driven organization, MTN takes cybersecurity very seriously, prioritizing the protection of its customers, staff, and systems.

“It’s important for us to make sure our customers are secure, our staff are secure, and the business is secure. That’s why we continue to educate our people so that no threat will impact our operations or our customers,” he said.

Mr. Nyarko further cautioned against the increasing menace of online fraudsters and scammers who continue to devise new tactics to exploit unsuspecting individuals.

According to Angel TV reporter, Nana Fynn, Mr. Nyarko urged staff to adopt good cybersecurity practices such as using strong passwords, updating software regularly, and being cautious of suspicious emails or links.

Adding to the discussion, Maxwell Acquah, Acting Regional Technical Manager for MTN, highlighted the company’s consistent and practical training programs designed to build the capacity of staff to identify and manage cyber risks.

“One more thing I also want to highlight is that at MTN, the form of training we take our staff through really builds them up,” Mr. Acquah stated. “

A typical example is the quarterly training that we take everyone through, followed by monthly sessions. We also have a dedicated portal where staff who have gone through these trainings log in to confirm that they have indeed been trained on cybersecurity.”

He emphasized that these structured and continuous training initiatives help ensure that every staff member is equipped to recognize, report, and respond to potential cyber threats effectively, thereby strengthening the company’s overall security posture.

The forum forms part of MTN Ghana’s broader cybersecurity campaign, which seeks to empower its workforce and customers with the knowledge and tools needed to combat cyber threats.
