The Management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced the temporary shutdown of the Teshie-Nungua Desalination Plant.
The company said the decision follows unresolved contractual issues and the prolonged lack of critical maintenance required to sustain efficient and safe operations.
According to GWL, the desalination plant has over the years served as a vital source of potable water to communities including Teshie, Nungua, Spintex, parts of Sakumono, La, and surrounding areas.
However, to minimize the impact of the shutdown, the company stated that it has put in place measures such as “rerouting water from alternative treatment plants” and “prioritizing essential service facilities including hospitals, schools, and health centres.”
GWL assured the public of its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and continuous water supply services and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.
“Engagements are ongoing to expedite the resolution of the issue and restore normal operations,” the company said in a statement released Tuesday, October 28, 2025,
The management also assured the public that regular updates on progress and timelines for restoration would be communicated through its official website, social media platforms, the media, and community engagement representatives
