Fire has completely destroyed a five-bedroom apartment belonging to a customs officer in New Winneba, located in the Effutu Municipality of the Central Region.
According to reports, the fire originated in one room before spreading to the others, resulting in the destruction of properties worth millions of cedis.
“An elderly woman was inside the apartment when the fire started, but with the assistance of nearby residents, she was rescued and taken to Winneba Trauma Hospital.”
In an interview with the media, eyewitnesses stated that the fire began in one room, and they promptly called the fire service in Winneba.
However, responders arrived in a private car and on motorcycles instead of bringing a fire tender to extinguish the flames.
“It took several hours before firefighters from Buduburam arrived to help quench the fire, but the building was already razed down to ashes,” an eyewitness reported.
Meanwhile, the fire service commander for the Effutu Municipality, DOII Frederick Adu-Poku, has confirmed the incident. He stated that they received a call from residents and quickly gathered at the scene.
However, he noted that their fire tender had broken down, leading them to request assistance from Buduburam, as fire tenders from Swedru and Apam were also out of service.
