I did not sanction mob attack on NAIMOS officials – Asutifi North MP

The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has debunked allegations leveled against him that he led a mob to attack officials of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in the Ahafo Region.

According to the MP, the allegations are ‘false’ and noted that he would never sanction such senseless behavior.

“Why would I lead over 600 people to attack NAIMOS when I was even on my way to a funeral? That area is not even my constituency, so why would I do that? I even commend the military for remaining calm and not retaliating.

“It is not true. I have not led any mob action to attack NAIMOS. The taskforce is doing a great job, so why would I even think of mobilizing people to attack them?” he retorted on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

Dr. Addo emphasized his innocence and added that, “Even as an MP, that makes no sense.”

The MP indicated that his presence at the scene was to only restore calm after he was informed about the situation.

“On the weekend, there are always activities around, and I was on my way to a funeral. I took a different route and saw and heard the commotion. I immediately called the MP for Asutifi South, Collins Dauda, to inform him.

“He told me to go and check what was happening since I was closer to the area. That is why I went to the grounds. I even introduced myself to the military personnel and told them I was just passing and wanted to see for myself,” he recounted.

He added, “While I was there, tension was rising, so we all moved to the police station. The road was blocked at the police station, and the military and police were held up until the Regional Crime Officer arrived to ensure we could move safely.

“I was only there to ensure peace in the area. When the situation worsened, I called some community leaders, including a prominent Muslim chief, to help restore order. While inside the police station, we heard reports of attacks happening outside, but at no point did I mobilize anyone to attack the task force.”
