The government would hold accountable anyone found responsible for the tragic El-Wak stampede, according to a statement from a senior presidential staffer, Rosemond Obeng.

Reacting to the Wednesday, November 12, 2025, incident, which led to the loss of six applicants, Madam Obeng pointed out that the government won’t shield anyone found culpable after investigations are conducted.

“I can assure everyone, including the bereaved families, that we will not let this one go; anyone who couldn’t perform their duties well, leading to this unfortunate incident, will be punished, “ she mentioned on Angel TV on Thursday, November 13.

The Presidential Staffer expressed concerns about the venue used for the screening exercise, emphasizing that a more spacious location would have been appropriate.

“To me, I think that the location of the screening was very wrong. They should have opted for Independence Square, which has spacious grounds, and even they could have also resorted to the Burma Camp, which has different parks, separating them into battles. We are talking large number of applicants into three folds: the army, the Navy, and the Armed Forces. Again, streamlining it by separating into two batches could have also been possible.”

In a proposal to prevent similar occurrences in the future, Madam Obeng said that using a mouth-period to undergo these screaming exercises could avert the disaster that the country witnessed.

“As you suggested for a using week, I even think one month would be suitable, where screening 200 or 300 people daily wouldn’t cause us anything,” she stated.
