Director of Operations for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah, has called on government officials to be proactive in fixing faulty street lights rather than waiting for special events or official visits to take action.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS), he noted that street lights often remain unfixed for long periods, only to be repaired when important visitors are scheduled to pass through, despite being used daily by ordinary citizens.
Mr. Nkrumah stressed that authorities should fix the street lights for the benefit of ordinary citizens rather than fixing them only to impress overseas officials who visit the country.
“Ask yourself, why is it that the citizens apply that route but the streetlights aren’t fixed, but one person from somewhere uses the same route and you want to impress him, impress us too,” he emphasized on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
He questioned why street lights aren’t being fixed for the benefit of citizens who pay taxes, rather than just for official visits, stating that citizens also use the same routes as officials.
“If there’s something that needs to be done, do it for us. Why do you want to impress someone or show off, meanwhile we pay taxes,” Mr. Nkrumah added.
