The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service has remanded a man captured in a viral video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife.
According to a statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the accused, John Odartey Lamptey, also known as Nii Adjei, was arrested after being identified in the video.
He has since been charged with physical assault, contrary to Sections 1(b)(i) and 3(2) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732).
The statement further revealed that two other individuals — siblings of the suspect, Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey — have also been remanded.
They are charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, specifically threat of harm, contrary to Sections 23(1) and 74 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The charges relate to their alleged attempt to attack a female tenant suspected of recording and circulating the viral video.
All three suspects have been remanded into police custody and are expected to reappear before the court on December 3, 2025.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service continue their search of the primary victim who fled the scene when the police effected arrest of the suspects and urge anyone with credible information about her whereabouts, to report to the nearest police station.
The statement assured the public that all information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
