The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has confirmed the death of a member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) following a fatal motor accident near the Obuasi Airport area.
Three others sustained severe injuries after the vehicle transporting the NAIMOS personnel crashed during an operation.
The accident involved a team of five NAIMOS officers who were undertaking a major anti-galamsey operation aimed at curbing illegal mining activities in the enclave.
According to an official statement from the Ministry, “Tragically, one member of the taskforce has been confirmed dead, while the remaining four sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical care.”
The Ministry further extended condolences to the bereaved family and expressed support for the injured officers.
“The Minister extends his profound sympathies to the family of our fallen colleague and conveys his heartfelt wishes for a swift recovery to the injured team members,” the statement read.
A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident has been initiated.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all frontline personnel and will ensure they receive the utmost support and care,” it assured.
