A 54-year-old man, Isaac Adonteng, has been arrested by the police for the murder of his 13-year-old daughter, Celestine Adonteng, in Kokrobite.
According to a press release from the Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred after the father allegedly subjected Celestine to severe physical abuse.
The police say preliminary investigations indicate that Isaac Adonteng physically assaulted his daughter with a cane, metal pipe, and other objects after accusing her of taking food belonging to her younger sibling.
Despite sustaining multiple injuries, the victim was not given medical care and was kept confined in a room.
She was later found unconscious and rushed to the Police Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Weija Divisional Police Command is investigating the case.
Exhibits retrieved from the scene include a cutlass and a metal pipe allegedly used in the assault.
The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned parents and guardians against using excessive force in correcting children, emphasizing that such actions are unlawful and can lead to tragic outcomes.
The police administration is urging the public to report all forms of child abuse and domestic violence promptly for swift intervention and protection of victims.
The body of Celestine Adonteng has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
