Founder of Ikederb Medical Outreach, Isaac Amoah, has outlined the various types of diabetes and their causes.
Speaking on the sidelines at ‘A Walk with an Angel’ event organized by Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN) to create awareness on diabetes, Dr Amoah noted that Type 1 diabetes is primarily hereditary, meaning it is passed down through family genes and bloodline.
“Hereditary, is like your parents or great grandparents are having it, and it is in your bloodstream or bloodline, that one you get what we call the Type 1 diabetes,” he stated on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

Mr. Amoah added that Gestational diabetes is mostly caused by pregnancy and its associated hormonal changes, leading to a higher sugar level.
“This comes as a result of pregnancy and hormonal changes; if you’re pregnant because of the hormonal changes, your blood sugar level increases,” he described.
He further said that a sedentary lifestyle, lack of exercise, intake of too much sugary foods, stress, and inactiveness also increase a person’s risk of getting diabetes.
