Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has called on President John Dramani Mahama to prioritize Ghana’s rising unemployment issues and take immediate action to address them.
Speaking at the 59th Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), he described unemployment as a national problem and concern of every Ghanaian which needs a swift intervention.
“Unemployment is a major issue in the country, it is a national concern and the President
should take a keen interest in this critical issue,” he stated on Saturday, November 29, 2025.
The Asantehene further appealed to the German government to invest in and support Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana.
“We are all aware of the unemployment situation in this nation, it was on that basis that I raised the issue when the German president and Ambassador payed a courtesy call on me last month. I wish to reiterate my appeal to the German government to support small and medium scale industries,” he added.
He also called on the government to address the issue of insufficient staff at KNUST by providing the necessary financial clearance for the recruitment of additional academic and non-academic staff for the university.
