NPP primaries: Dominic Nitiwul accused of playing tribal cards in Bimbilla
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Former Minister of Defence, Dominic Bingab Aduna Nitiwul, is facing intense criticism after reportedly telling Konkomba delegates in Bimbilla that Kennedy Ohene Agyapong “does not like them.”

Mr. Nitiwul, one of the most influential figures in the Dr. Mahamoudu Bawumia campaign team, is said to have urged the delegates to back Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, claiming that Konkombas nationwide were already supporting him and warning that choosing Kennedy would “disgrace” their community.

The remarks have triggered anger across the party.

Many describe the comments as reckless and unnecessary, arguing that this kind of tribal messaging divides the party rather than strengthens it.

They believe delegates should be engaged with ideas, plans and competence, not fear or ethnic labels.

According to insiders, worries about tribal undertones in sections of the Bawumia campaign have been building for months, but this latest episode has pushed the concerns into the spotlight.

Party members are calling for leadership intervention to prevent the situation from escalating and affecting unity ahead of the January 2026 primaries.

Observers warn that if such rhetoric continues, it risks damaging relationships in key constituencies and shifting focus away from the issues that actually matter to delegates and the grassroots.
