The National Youth Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Salam Mustapha, has waded into the ongoing controversy surrounding Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng detention of individuals.
He described recent developments involving Private Legal Practitioner Martin Kpebu as a strategic move by the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a post on Facebook, Mr. Mustapha suggested that the Special Prosecutor miscalculated in his handling of Martin Kpebu.
According to him, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) played into the hands of the opposition party.
“The Special Prosecutor touching Martin Kpebu was biting more than he could chew. Martin is apparently a golden egg in the NDC, the ferocious response to the Kisi Agyapeng tells it all. The NDC made sure he didn’t sleep in jail.
“Everything is strategy. Obviously, Kisi didn’t read the chess well. Martin Kpebu was a wide card thrown at him. He pestered and infuriated the S.P and forced him to lose his cool. And baam they caught him. The fish swallowed the bait and the hook.”
Mr. Mustapha argued that the OSP failed to apply the wisdom required when dealing with political opponents.
“When you’re dining with the devil, you dine with a long spoon. Ab initio, the NDC were not interested in keeping Kisi Agyapeng there, now his lost his NPP allies who would have gone to town for him,” he noted.
He cautioned that in the game of chess, one must “watch and calculate carefully every move.”
His comments come at a time when members of the Majority Caucus in Parliament are mounting pressure for the removal of Kissi Agyebeng as head of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
This comes after the Special Prosecutor allegedly detained Martin Kpebu unlawfully, following his invitation to the Office for questioning over accusations levelled against the OSP.
