The Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has called for a ceasefire in the ongoing chieftaincy disputes within the Kwahu Traditional Area.

She assured the people of Kwahu of the Regional Security Council’s (REGSEC) commitment to resolving the matter to ensure peace and harmony prevail.

The minister gave the assurance when a delegation of about 50 traditional rulers from the Kwahu enclave, led by Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, Kwahu Adontenhene and Chief of Abetifi, paid a courtesy call on her at her office in Koforidua.

The visit was to express concerns about the chieftaincy unrest in Kwahu and the alleged unlawful arrest of their Omanhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, the Queen Mother of Kwahu, Nana Adwoa Gyamfua, and some palace staff.

The delegation petitioned the minister to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and to allow access to the palace.

Mrs. Awatey reassures the traditional rulers that REGSEC is prepared to work closely with the Regional House of Chiefs and other stakeholders to restore peace and tranquility in Okwuahuman.

She emphasized that the peace of the region is paramount and pledged that every effort will be made to safeguard it.
