The Western Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a fatal shooting incident that occurred at a mining company site in Adelekezu, near Dadwen in the Axim District, on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

The incident resulted in the death of a boy and the destruction of company properties.

According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service on Sunday, December 14, youths from Adelekezu attempted to invade the company’s concession, leading to a confrontation with private security men.

During the clash, the youths tried to seize a security man’s pump action gun.

The security guard fired the weapon, hitting the boy, who was rushed to Axim Government Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.

The boy’s death sparked outrage among the town’s youth, who went on a rampage, setting ablaze two 4/4 SUV vehicles, two tipper trucks, a pickup, and damaging a Toyota Land Cruiser.

They also threatened to lynch workers.

Police responded to the scene, rescued 11 workers, and arrested four suspects: Gyenyaame Owusu (38years), Matthew Asamah (24years), Nana Yaw (15years), Yaw Opoku (16years), and Kojo Agyei (21years), for causing harm and unlawful damage.

The Western Regional Command has called on the community to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation to ensure justice is served.
