The Asantehene, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, underscored the importance of the report on the mediation of the protracted Bawku conflict.

According to him, the report should serve as a mechanism to bind all parties involved.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II made the call at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, during his presentation of the mediation report on Bawku to President John Dramani Mahama.

The mediation exercise, which began earlier this year after President John Mahama appointed the revered Overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom, forms part of efforts to secure lasting peace in the area.

In his presentation, the Asantehene reiterated that the mediation process was not arbitration.

“I’m here not to give a judgement as to who was wrong or right. I am here to present the facts as they are for us to have peace. It is almost about two and a half year since your predecessor invited me to mediate in a major conflict in Bawku that had become a major threat to the security of the nation.”

He added that “I report the facts as they are and it should be binding on all of us, whoever is involved.”

The Asantehene further notes that the report will be presented to the President for consideration and whatever action he deems appropriate.

“Almost a year ago, the people of Ghana handed the mandate of the governance of Ghana to you Your Excellency and you wasted no time in reaffirming the mandate of the Bawku mediation.

“By the Grace of God, we are able to assemble here to present to Your Excellency the report of the mission you entrusted to us. We present the report for your kind consideration and whatever action you and your government consider appropriate,” he said.

He used the opportunity to express his profound gratitude to President John Mahama for the trust reposed in him to find lasting solutions to the conflict.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s mediation process commenced in April 2025, engaging representatives of the feuding factions in separate meetings.
