The President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, has called on chiefs, elders, and the general public to encourage the people of Bawku to uphold peace and live in harmony.

Speaking during the presentation of the Bawku Mediation Report at the Presidency, he stated that peace can be sustained in Bawku if everyone is encouraged to stop acts of violence against one another.

He added that this could also serve as an example for other conflict-prone areas to follow.

“I am urging everybody here especially my dear chiefs let us go back and then speak to the people of Bawku if this is done I believe that they will be peace in Bawku and other areas will also learn from this and have peace,” Yaw Gyebi II said noted on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

He acknowledged the efforts of both the current and previous governments in addressing the Bawku conflict between the Kusasis and Mamprusis, particularly by involving the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as a mediator to help restore peace.

Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, on behalf of the chiefs, also thanked the Asantehene and expressed his delight that Otumfuo presented the Bawku Mediation Report publicly.

“Let me also express the gratitude of Nananom to his royal majesty for what we have heard this afternoon, I am indeed happy that he did not hand the report in an envelope to his excellency the president, he has read it to the hearing of everybody here,” he added.
