Nana Akomeah: Claim Bawumia caused NPP’s 2024 election defeat false

The Chairman of the Communications Directorate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, Nana Akomea, has rejected claims that Dr. Bawumia’s candidature for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 election was the cause of their defeat.

He further debunked claims made by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, that Dr. Bawumia was incompetent in handling the country’s economy under the erstwhile NPP administration.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show, Mr. Akomea described Mr. Acheampong’s assertion as baseless and lacking credible evidence.

Mr. Akomea cited pre-election research by EIU, Afrobarometer, and Global InfoAnalytics, which pointed to factors such as poor living conditions as the reasons for the NPP’s defeat.

He also referenced post-election reports by Prof. Mike Ocquaye’s committee and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, which echoed similar findings.

“Bawumia’s candidature wasn’t cited as a major factor in any of these studies,” he stressed.

Mr. Akomea thus challenged the Abetifi MP to produce credible evidence backing his claims.

According to him, recent surveys, including those by Global InfoAnalytics and Konrad Adenauer, show Bawumia’s growing popularity among delegates, further disproving claims that he caused the NPP’s worst defeat in 2024.
