The Berekum East Municipal Assembly has disbursed the Person’s With Disabilities (PWDs) Common Fund to 40 beneficiaries, urging them to utilise it to enhance their livelihoods.
During the disbursement event, the Bono Regional Chairman, on behalf of the group, commended the government for increasing their allocation.
Mr. Kwei Nortey Blemano noted that the Common Fund has assisted many members in rising from extreme poverty. However, he appealed to the government to consider removing the tax component from the fund.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hajia Fati Abubakar, assured PWDs of the government’s continued support. She also urged the 40 beneficiaries to use the funds wisely to improve their economic circumstances.
“I believe this is the first time we are able to cater for so many early this year 2025. I have been an Assembly Member and Presiding Member, and I was in charge of their committee,” she stated.
“He’s trying his best to support them and provide for their families. Today, we are giving fridges, fufu machines, and provisions, which include rice and other essentials.”
“Regarding education, we pay fees for those who wish to pursue their studies, and the government strives to cover these costs.
“We also include medical bills for those requiring healthcare. These are the initiatives we have implemented to support persons with disabilities,” she added.
