The Ghana Police Service has arrested 79 suspects in separate Christmas Special Operations conducted in parts of Tema in the Greater Accra Region and in the Eastern Region.
According to a police statement, 41 suspects were picked up during targeted operations at Nkwatia, Nkawkaw, Kwahu Tafo, Saafi, Trado, Kotoso, Effiduase, Nteso, Somanya, Krobo Odumase, and Juaben in the Eastern Region.
In the Tema Region, 38 suspects were arrested in coordinated intelligence-led operations at Prampram, Tema Newtown, Sege, and Kpong.
The exercise, carried out on different days, focused on known drug peddling spots and criminal hideouts within the townships and surrounding communities.
Items retrieved during the operations included wraps of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs, firearms, scissors, lighters, and Ghana cedi notes, among others.
Police say all the suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations, while the retrieved exhibits have been secured pending forensic analysis.
