Dormaahene demands accountability over National Cathedral funds

The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Nana Freduah Agyemang Badu II, has called for a full investigation into the funds spent on the National Cathedral project, raising concerns over discrepancies in reported amounts.

Speaking during a sod-cutting ceremony at the Sunyani Outer Ring Road in the Bono Region, in the presence of President John Dramani Mahama, the Dormaahene questioned the differing figures associated with the project and underscored the need for transparency.

“One of the major reasons why you were voted for is corruption. We’ve seen that with the National Cathedral. The money they said has been spent, I don’t understand. Some of us thought it’s $56 million, we later heard $96 million,” he said.

He noted that clarity on the matter was important and indicated that legal options could be considered if concerns were not adequately addressed.

“His Excellency, I will go to court if the Attorney General tells us that there is no corruption in it and call the person in charge so that we can interrogate him in order to tell every Ghanaian the truth,” he stated.

The Dormaahene further urged the President to ensure that the issue is thoroughly examined, adding that questions remain about aspects of the project.

“I have heard that some people are under it, but Your Excellency, we don’t understand that hole that was dug for the National Cathedral. We want some people to stand before the law and tell us the reason that money went,” he added.
