The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has announced the introduction of the Greenville District Housing Programme.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the Minister explained that the initiative is aimed at decentralizing housing delivery and ensuring decent, affordable accommodation for low- to middle-income earners across all districts.

Mr. Adjei disclosed that the programme has already begun its pilot phase in eight districts: South Dayi, Asuogyaman, Akyemansa, Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Atwima Kwanwoma, Dormaa West, Bole, and Tamale.

“In its pilot phase, the programme has commenced in eight districts… and the projects are at various stages of completion. Each district is expected to receive 20 two-bedroom housing units,” the Minister stated.

He further highlighted that the Greenville project is designed as a national model for climate-resilient and resource-efficient housing.

To guarantee sustainability and durability, he stated that the Ministry is adopting a hybrid construction method that integrates compressed earth bricks with conventional sandcrete blocks.

In addition, the programme is fully EDGE-certified, relying on low-carbon and locally sourced materials to support Ghana’s climate commitments.

Mr. Adjei stressed that the Greenville initiative represents an “important step in improving living standards and advancing inclusivity across the country.”

The official launch of the programme is expected in the coming days and to form part of the government’s broader agenda to reset and transform all sectors.
