President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned that Ghana’s security environment within the subregion remains complex and volatile, citing violent extremism, terrorism, and transnational crime as major threats to national stability.

According to the President, these threats are particularly pronounced along Ghana’s northern borders.

He noted that the global rise of non-state actors engaged in asymmetric warfare has significantly reshaped modern security challenges.

President Mahama emphasized that addressing these emerging threats requires a comprehensive and coordinated national response, rather than relying solely on the armed forces and security agencies.

He stressed that security is a shared national responsibility, calling on citizens, local communities, traditional authorities, civil society groups, and government institutions to work together to safeguard the country’s peace.

The President made these remarks on Friday, January 30, 2026, during the graduation ceremony at the Ghana Military Academy in Teshie.
