The defeated aspirants in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race have pledged their full support to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia after his election as the party’s presidential candidate.
The candidates include Kennedy Agyapong, Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyapong.
In their respective acceptance speeches at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka, the four high-profile personalities accepted defeat and congratulated the eventual winner.
They underscored the importance of togetherness in the party’s comeback to power in 2028 and called for a renewed commitment to a strong front as the NPP prepares for the general elections under the leadership of Dr. Bawumia.
Kennedy Agyapong, who came second in the polls after a fierce contest, urged his supporters to remain calm and respect the outcome.
“The delegates have spoken and I want to plead with my supporters that they should stay calm, accept the results in good faith, and help all of us work together to win the 2028 election,” he said.
He stressed that unity and respect must guide the party’s next steps towards rebuilding.
Bryan Acheampong described the journey as “hectic but incredibly rewarding,” noting that the NPP’s strength lies in its unity as one family.
“Now more than ever, the NPP must stand united as one family. Our collective responsibility is to rebuild trust with Ghanaians, strengthen our structures and prepare decisively for victory in 2028,” he stated.
On his part, former Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum echoed similar sentiments and expressed optimism about the party’s future.
“I believe that the Elephant will come back on track. Better days are ahead of us, and we will secure victory in 2028,” he said in a show of oneness.
He promised wholehearted support to Dr. Bawumia to ensure the NPP’s return to government becomes a possible mission.
Kwabena Agyei Agyapong emphasized the importance of restoring the values that have sustained the NPP’s tradition since its formation.
“We have a wonderful opportunity to restore the values that animated the formation of this solid party. Together we will unite, work hard, and earn the trust of Ghanaians.”
Mr. Agyapong confidently declared “In 2028, the elephant will be back.”
