President John Dramani Mahama has directed urgent measures to safeguard Ghana’s Dr. Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah-era properties abroad.

He reaffirmed the government’s support and commitment to preserving historic state assets and strengthening bilateral ties with host countries.

Speaking during an engagement with Ghanaians living in Zambia as part of his three-day state visit, President Mahama disclosed that although there had been attempts in the past to dispose of some of the properties, the government has successfully secured them.

He announced that plans are underway to renovate existing Ghanaian diplomatic and state facilities in Zambia to enhance their functionality and value.

He stressed that the government is prioritising the development of lands allocated to Ghana in various countries but which remain undeveloped.

According to him, failure to utilise such lands could lead to their repossession by host countries.

On his part, the Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, disclosed that Ghana and Zambia have reached a landmark visa waiver agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and promoting easier travel between the two countries.
