The Corporate Affairs Officer for Tema Oil Refinery, Godwin Mahama Ayaba has stated that no president in Ghana has had the courage to condemn vote buying except President John Dramani Mahama.
In a panel discussion on Angel Anopa Bofo Show on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, he emphasized that since 1992, every party engaging in elections has practiced vote buying, making this the first time a president has spoken out against such an act.
“I take this opportunity to commend his Excellency John Dramani Mahama for being bold and ready to set a good pace,” he stated.
Ayaba asserted that Mahama’s stance will serve as a deterrent for all parties and their members, urging them to resist this practice moving forward.
He cautioned against utilising this opportunity to attack any particular party, highlighting that both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been victims of vote buying.
“This is not the time for somebody to be wanting to score one particular point, because NDC we are victims and NPP they are victims.
“We all don’t have the moral right to single out anybody,” he stated.
He called on all political parties to join forces in supporting the president’s initiative to eradicate vote buying.
“When we join forces, it will be the beginning of the end of vote buying,” he uttered.
