Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asante Akyem North Constituency, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, has submitted a private member’s bill to Parliament seeking to amend the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574).
The proposed legislation aims to introduce a campaign financing regime and address related matters in Ghana’s political framework.
In a memorandum addressed to the Clerk of Parliament dated Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Frimpong requested the Legislative Drafting Office to prepare the bill for submission to the Speaker.
The amendment intends to establish clearer regulations on campaign funding, potentially influencing transparency and accountability in electoral processes.
The move comes amid ongoing discussions about electoral reforms in Ghana, with stakeholders awaiting details of the proposed financing regime and its implications for political parties and elections.
Parliament will review the drafted bill before deciding on its progression to debate and potential enactment.
