The Ghana Education Service (GES) has condemned serious misconducts that occurred during the recently concluded Super Zonal Sports Competition in the Eastern Region, held from February 4th to 6th, 2026.

According to the GES statement, reports indicate that two grave incidents took place in connection with the event: a stabbing and an alleged gang-rape.

Management strongly denounces these acts, emphasizing that such behavior has no place within the Ghana Education Service, which prioritizes nurturing talent, discipline, teamwork, and unity among students.

Details of the incidents reveal that a student from Koforidua Senior High Technical School was stabbed approximately 200 meters away from the competition venue while attempting to meet a friend.

The attackers were students from New Juaben Senior High School.

Additionally, a female student of Osino Senior High School was allegedly raped in a bush near the competition grounds.

In response, authorities have arrested two students linked to the alleged rape, who are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

A third suspect, identified as the alleged ringleader and an old student of Koforidua Senior High Technical School, has been detained at the police station.

The rape victim has received medical attention and is undergoing counseling and psychosocial support from the Regional Guidance and Counselling Coordinator, alongside officers from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).

The stabbing victim also received medical care, was discharged, and one suspect related to the stabbing has been arrested and is aiding police investigations.

GES management has pledged to treat these incidents with utmost seriousness, adhering to the Code of Conduct of the Ghana Education Service.

The Regional Director of Education has been directed to apply appropriate sanctions to the involved schools, serving as a deterrent to similar actions.

The service urges all stakeholders to remain calm and cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies as investigations continue.
