Ghana is bigger than any party; protect our democracy – Bawumia urges government

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on the government to safeguard Ghana’s democratic values and avoid political vendettas.

Speaking at the National Mosque during an Islamic Thanksgiving and Prayer session on Friday, February 13, 2026, Dr. Bawumia said the country must prioritise unity, healing and responsible governance over partisan rivalry.

According to him, Ghana has endured difficult moments in recent times, with many citizens still grappling with economic and social pressures, making it crucial for leaders to focus on national cohesion.

“This is not the time for retribution, intimidation, or settling political scores,” he stated. “It is the time to lower the political temperature, heal the nation and govern in a way that reassures Ghanaians that they are safe, respected and valued regardless of how they voted.”

Dr. Bawumia emphasised that the responsibilities of government require patience, listening and a commitment to service rather than the pursuit of political opponents.

“Ghana is bigger than any party; our democracy must never be reduced,” he stressed. “There is serious work to be done, work that demands patience, learning and showing up even when there is no applause.”
