The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects in the Ahafo Region for unlawful possession of firearms and alleged preparation to commit robbery.

The suspects include Johnson Mawutor, aged 26, Kelvin Ofori, aged 22, and Mawuli Dogba, aged 20, who were apprehended during a stop-and-search operation by a Regional Taskforce patrol team.

According to the Police statement issued by the Ahafo Regional Command on Tuesday, February 24, 2026

Police statement detailed that the patrol team reportedly spotted Mawutor and Kelvin Ofori riding an unregistered motorbike towards Ayomso near Goaso.

The suspects, while noticing the police at a distance, allegedly switched off the motorbike’s headlight and attempted a U-turn in a bid to escape.

Their efforts failed as they were arrested and retrieved an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition concealed in a bag they were carrying.

Further investigations led officers to a residence at Abro Danho, a suburb of Goaso, where additional items were retrieved from Mawutor’s room.

The items included a Beretta Bruni pistol No. MOD.92, an NM157-1941 pistol, 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 4 Motorola handsets, a Contiso F35 drone, a machete, and a bayonet knife.

The Police investigations disclosed that Mawutor had allegedly asked his cousin, Mawuli Dogba, to accompany a friend, identified as Mohammed-Adinan Ussif, to Techiman in the Bono East Region to collect a parcel on his behalf.

Police said that upon arriving in Techiman, Ussif reportedly entered a house, returned with a wine-colored polyester bag containing the parcel, and sent Dogba to the Goaso lorry station, where he boarded a Toyota Voxy mini-bus back to Goaso with the package.

The Police Service indicated that Mawutor and Kelvin met Dogba upon his arrival and took possession of the parcel before they were intercepted by the police that same night.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned before the court and remanded to assist in ongoing investigations.

It noted that efforts are underway to arrest the fourth suspect, Mohammed-Adinan Ussif, and any other accomplices connected to the case.
