President John Dramani Mahama has outlined a renewed national vision anchored on fiscal discipline, transparency, and sustainable development as key pillars to reset Ghana’s economic and governance framework.

He indicated that his administration remains committed to rebuilding public confidence in governance while pursuing policies aimed at economic recovery, national renewal, and long-term prosperity for citizens.

Mr. Mahama said this during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered in Parliament on Friday, February 27, 2026.

Addressing Members of Parliament and the nation, the President emphasised that Ghana has reached a critical turning point that demands decisive leadership and collective responsibility to overcome prevailing socio-economic challenges.

“I stand before you to speak to another such defining moment, a moment of rebound, of national renewal, and of restored hope in our country’s history.”

According to him, his government’s development framework is guided by strategic policies designed to reposition Ghana on a path of growth and resilience through responsible economic management.

“At the heart of my vision for our beloved country are two complementary and mutually reinforcing agendas: the Resetting Ghana Agenda and the Accra Reset.”

“It is time to turn the page on years of mismanagement, confronting our challenges with honesty, and charting a new course anchored in fiscal discipline, transparency, and sustainable development.”

President Mahama further linked his administration’s policy direction to national aspirations captured in the upcoming independence celebrations.

“The theme for the 69th Independence celebration, ‘Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope’, serves as the blueprint for my administration’s vision and action.”

Reflecting on both personal and national experiences, he noted that Ghana’s progress has been shaped by resilience in the face of challenges and a determination to rebuild stronger institutions.

“My journey in public service, like that of our nation, has not followed a straight path. It has been marked by periods of steady progress, by setbacks, and by determined recovery.”

“‘Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope’ reflects where we have been, acknowledges the difficulties we have endured, and confidently declares where we are headed.”

The President also highlighted the broader continental dimension of Ghana’s development agenda, stressing the need for stronger African cooperation and self-reliance.

“Accra Reset recognises that Ghana’s prosperity cannot be separated from Africa’s progress. It is a call for a fundamental shift in how African nations relate to one another and to the world, from dependence to self-reliance, from fragmentation to integration, and from reactive postures to strategic leadership.”

He reaffirmed government’s commitment to implementing reforms that promote accountability, economic stability, and inclusive development as part of efforts to reset the nation and restore hope among Ghanaians.
