President John Dramani Mahama, will be the Special Guest at the official opening of the 2026 Judicial Year of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights in Arusha, Tanzania.

The ceremony, scheduled for Monday, March 2, 2026, will also mark the launch of activities commemorating the Court’s 20th anniversary under the theme “20 Years of Service in Protecting Human and Peoples’ Rights in Africa.”

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who noted that President Mahama is expected to depart Accra on Sunday for the event in the Tanzanian city of Arusha.

The invitation is historic, as it will be the first time a sitting President of the Republic of Ghana addresses the AU Court.

President Mahama will also hold bilateral talks with Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, aimed at strengthening relations between Ghana and Tanzania.

The President is expected to return to Ghana the same day.

In his absence, the Vice President will act as President in accordance with Article 60(8) of the 1992 Constitution, the statement noted.
