Ghana’s First Lady, Lordina Mahama, has been installed as Development Queen Mother ‘Nkosuohemaa’ of the Akroso-Asukawkaw Traditional Area in the Krachi East District of the Oti region.
She was enstooled by the paramount chief of the traditional area, Nana Odamu Gyamfi III, and ably supported by chiefs and elders.
Conferred with the stool name Nana Oseadeayo Odamwaa II, it was occasioned with all traditional rites performed on Saturday February 28 2026, at Akroso-Asukawkaw.
This was after she commissioned and handed over an ultra-modern maternity and child health facility built by the Lordina Foundation in the community.
According to the Paramount Chief, this is in recognition of Mrs. Mahama’s relentless commitment to the country’s health sector and other ongoing developmental projects.
“The Chief and his elders enstooled Mrs. Mahama as the Development Queen Mother of the Akroso-Asukawkaw Traditional Area, with the title Nana Oseadeayo Odamwaa II,” said Nana Odamu Gyamfi III as quoted by the Presidency.
The traditional leader expressed profound gratitude to the First Lady describing the project as a “life-saving initiative” that will ease prenatal, delivery, and postnatal care for Asukawkaw and the surrounding areas.
Mrs. Mahama was thankful to the traditional authorities for the honor done her to bestow the entitlement on her.
Touching on the facility, she urged health authorities, facility managers, and members of the Akroso-Asukawkaw community to maintain the facility to benefit more generations.
The facility which follows a request from the Paramount Chief a year ago has a reception area, doctors’ and nurses’ offices, maternity and children’s wards, a fully equipped operating theatre, a delivery room, a sterilisation room, a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), storage, and data rooms.
Key equipment installed in the facility includes the electric beds, operating tables, infant incubators, ultrasound machines, C-section and delivery kits, ECG machines, phototherapy units, patient monitors, oxygen systems, television sets, and more.
Also installed is a hybrid power system, that combines the national grid with solar to ensure reliable emergency lighting and efficiency.
