The National Democratic Congress (NDC), candidate, Baba Jamal has emerged victorious in the Ayawaso East Constituency by-election held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Out of 50,000 registered voters, 16,928 cast their ballots across 113 polling centres.
Baba Jamal secured 10,884 votes, representing 63 percent of the total, to win the contest.
His closest contender, Baba Ali Yusif of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,009 votes representing 23 percent.
Other candidates included Ibrahim Iddrisu of the LPG, had 43 votes, and two independent candidates: Mohammed Umar Sanda with 1,885 votes and David Kanor with 104 votes.
With this victory, Baba Jamal is the Member of Parliament (MP) elect for Ayawaso East.
The former Member of Parliament for Akwatia will officially return to Parliament when sworn in by the Speaker of the House, to represent the constituency in the 9th Parliament.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of the incumbent MP, Nasser Toure Mahama, in January.
