President John Dramani Mahama has called for urgent climate justice for small island developing states, emphasizing the need for equitable access to climate finance and reforms in global financial institutions to help vulnerable nations like Saint Kitts and Nevis adapt to rising sea levels, food insecurity, and economic shocks.
Speaking at a luncheon in honour of Prime Minister Terrance Michael Drew and his delegation on March 4, 2026, at the Jubilee House, President Mahama emphasized the need for equitable access to climate finance and reform of global financial institutions to reflect the realities of developing nations.
“Ghana stands in solidarity with small island states in advocating for climate justice. Our collective responsibility is to ensure that vulnerable nations are supported to adapt to climate change, strengthen resilience, and secure sustainable development” he said.
The President also highlighted the importance of strengthening Africa-Caribbean collaboration to address shared challenges.
He cited initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area and the African-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum as platforms to promote economic partnerships while supporting sustainable climate solutions.
