The Member of Parliament (MP) for Biakoye, Jean-Marie Formadi, has criticised the Akufo-Addo government for unpaid contractors, which has led to the stalling of major road projects.

Speaking in Parliament, she emphasised that many of the roads initiated by the Akufo-Addo administration remain incomplete.

Hon. Formadi expressed her concern that the abandonment of these roads is largely due to the fact that many contractors are not based in Ghana and have not received their payments.

“Most contractors were not based in this country for that matter, most of the roads that they cut sod for were all abandoned. Eight years of roads, 2020 year of roads; every year, year of roads; at the end of the day, there was no road to commission,” she stated.

She asserted that the current government is committed to completing the road projects left unfinished by the previous administration, indicating that many contractors have now been paid and have returned to work on the abandoned roads.

“The contractors were not on sites because they were not paid, but as we speak, most contractors have been paid; I am happy because the president is working, and Ghana is working again,” she stated.

Hon. Formadi noted that this initiative will create employment opportunities for the youth, as contractors will hire labourers, engineers, masons, carpenters, drivers, and others, leading to an increase in their purchasing power.
