Corruption is a cancer that erodes the very foundation of our nation – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized that corruption destroys the foundation of Ghana and that he cannot fight it alone.

Delivering a speech at the 69th Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee House on Friday, March 6, 2026, he stated that every cedi stolen from the public purse represents a shortage in a sector and has a significant effect on citizens.

“Every cedi that is stolen from the public purse represents a classroom robbed of textbooks, a hospital without medicines, a road left uncompleted, and young graduates who are denied opportunities,” President Mahama said.

He announced that the government is fighting corruption not just with words, but also through institutions set up and protected to help fight corruption.

“Under my leadership, we are not just fighting corruption with words alone.

“We are strengthening institutions, protecting anti-corruption agencies from political interference, and ensuring that no individual, regardless of their status or party, is above the law,” he highlighted.

President Mahama further urged Ghanaians to foster a national culture of integrity, where honesty is valued and public service is regarded as a sacred duty.
