Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has called on Ghanaians to build stronger relationships and rise above partisan divisions, stressing that unity is key to the country’s progress.
Speaking about the importance of relationships at the Accra Friendship Forever Club dinner held on Saturday, March 8, 2026, Mr. Debrah said human connections often shape people’s futures in unexpected ways.
Mr. Debrah shared a personal story from his days at Achimota School, revealing that he once took care of Kofi Kufuor, the son of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
According to him, during his time in school, sixth-form students were assigned cubicles, and younger students often kept food brought by their parents in their seniors’ rooms.
“I believe most of you will be surprised that when I was attending Achimota School, I was the one taking care of Kofi Kufuor’s food,” he said.
He explained that at the time, neither he nor the former president could have imagined what the future held.
“By then, we didn’t know President Kufuor would become the President of Ghana, and I also never dreamt that I would grow up and join politics,” he stated.
Mr. Debrah noted that the bond he developed with the former president led to occasional visits to his home on weekends.
He recalled that the former president often advised him to remain disciplined and focused.
“He would ask me where I was from and who my father was. He always advised me to be a good boy, saying that if I became a good boy, one day I would become a good man,” he recounted.
Reflecting on his journey, the Chief of Staff said those words of encouragement have stayed with him over the years.
He further urged Ghanaians to move beyond political rivalry between the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.
“We have been allowing NDC and NPP to spoil things, but as we move forward, if we want our nation to progress, we must allow the love between us to grow,” he said.
Addressing the former president directly, Mr. Debrah added, “Mr. President, that small boy whom you used to call and give money to whenever you came to Achimota School is now the Chief of Staff.”
