We shall remain resolute despite gov’t’ ‘persecution’ – Afenyo-Markin

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called for the abolition of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the aptitude test for the ongoing security service recruitment.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, he emphasised the need to change the current system, enabling young people who lack education in Information Communication Technology (ICT) to take the test manually.

He explained that requiring individuals with no knowledge of ICT to complete an aptitude test via AI is detrimental, as it essentially sets them up for failure.

“If someone who does not know anything about ICT is suddenly called to go and write an aptitude test via AI, and if the person does not have any means, it automatically means the person has failed already,” he stated.

Afenyo-Markin highlighted the challenges faced by many individuals who visit internet cafés, noting that these barriers often prevent them from accessing the internet altogether.

He expressed approval for the military’s decision to create a system that allows for direct manual completion of the aptitude test.

“If it is possible, the system should be changed to enable our boys and girls who are even not educated on ICT to write it manually.” he advocated.

He reiterated that his stance is not merely a political issue, asserting the need for the ministry to implement proper measures that would allow for a more equitable testing process.

“I do not want to be misconstrued as politicising; this is a serious issue that the ministry should look at,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin further noted that some constituents approach Members of Parliament for financial assistance to access the internet, urging the ministry to review the entire system to ensure equal access for all.

“I speak for the entire house, I plead that the whole system be reviewed. Our boys and girls come to us MPs to take money to go on the Internet,” he uttered.
