A 25-year-old traditional priest identified as Horlali Prosper has been arrested by police at Jei Krodua for allegedly beheading his girlfriend and mutilating parts of her body at Awutu Bentum in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly lured the victim into a nearby bush where he murdered her, beheaded her, and cut off part of her body, including her breasts and private parts.
Further reports indicate that the suspect inherited his father’s property but claimed he did not want to serve his father’s gods. He is said to have travelled to Togo to bring his own gods and allegedly carried out the act as part of rituals associated with them.
Sources also suggested that the suspect had initially attempted to kill a close friend but failed before allegedly committing the crime against his girlfriend.
The suspect was later arrested by the police at Jei Krodua after the incident was reported.
Meanwhile, angry residents of the community reportedly demolished the suspect’s house and set his shrine ablaze following the incident.
Assemblyman for the Mfadwen Pobee Ayiresu Electoral Area, Prince Larbi, confirmed the incident to the media, indicating the deceased had travelled all the way from Kasoa to visit the suspect before the alleged murder.
He also expressed concern about the increasing cases of killings in the area and cautioned the youth against the desire to get rich overnight through unlawful means.
Police have conveyed the body to the police mortuary for preservation while investigations continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
